Some say I should have been an English teacher, but I hardly think so. It's just that I like the language, I like the rules, and I like things to be orderly.
Admittedly, I'm not always right - which I hate. ;-)
I've heard it said that people are either "word people" or "number people." I work with numbers every day in my day job, but I am so not a numbers person (don't tell my boss). Numbers are too rigid. With words you can be creative, you can tell a story, you can convey your thoughts, you can share your world.
With my love of the written or spoken word also comes the eye or ear for errors. Some errors have become so prevalent that they become the norm. The digital age doesn't help; how do you learn spelling and grammar when you type in shorthand? Will we soon have a herd of teens and young adults looking for jobs by texting - "I wld like to wrk fr u i m gr8 at wht i do."
The error that prompted this post: here are a few pics of Bob and I from our last trip to Vancouver.

It should read: here are a few pics of Bob and me from our last trip to Vancouver.
Does the corrected version sound incorrect? Perhaps, but if you removed Bob's name, you wouldn't say "here are a few pics of I from my last trip to Vancouver," would you? That's the easy way to remember whether to use Me or I, simply remove the other person and rewrite the sentence.
Another trick: rewrite the sentence taking out the names and using US or WE instead. If you were to use US, then use "so-and-so and me." If you were to use WE, then use "so-and-so and I."
Here are a few pics of US from our last trip to Vancouver. Us = me so you should use Bob and me when writing the sentence.

Just don't go through my blog looking for spelling or grammar errors. You'll find them, for sure. We all make them. I just needed to get that one off my chest.

'Tis the Birthday Season...
In my world, this time of year is known as The Birthday Season. It starts January 25th and runs through to the early April.
In this short period, six family birthdays are celebrated in person (some on more than one occasion), at least six family birthdays are celebrated by loved ones who live away, add in some best friend birthdays and an anniversary and you've got yourself a real Birthday Season!
This year, I get to add in some milestone birthday photo shoots to the mix and that all adds up to A LOT of cake! Good thing I like cake.
Here's the most recent cake - football-themed for the little guy who made his grand entrance on Super Bowl Sunday...

40 is the new 20...
...or something like that.
I loved turning 40. I'm not even sure why. I was anxious for it, looked forward to it, couldn't wait. I spent my year as a 39 year old waiting to be a 40 year old. I celebrated with my best girlfriends, some who had hit their 40's before me, some with many years to go before getting there. We ate, we drank, we danced... we closed the bar.
And life was a 40 year old? It was wonderful. I felt a sense of peace, as though I know who I am and I'm okay with it. My life is far from being what I thought it would be at this point and I'm still a work in progress but I no longer struggle to be good enough for anyone else. Although if you knew me, you'd probably be surprised that that was one of my struggles, but it was. I wanted everyone to like me.
Then I turned 40. You don't like me? I'm okay with that. I like me. I'm not the prettiest, or the best, or the funniest, but I'm me and this is what you get. I'm a good person, I'm fiercely loyal, I love completely, I am optimistic, I take your stories and hold on to them tightly.
Sounds great, doesn't it? If only I'd share the bad stuff, too. But this is my blog and the optimist in me would like to believe that right now, in this very moment, it's all good. And it is.
For those of you on the cusp of 40 (and you know who you are!), embrace it. You can't fight it, nor should you even try. Be thankful for your 40 years and who you've become as a person. You are worthy of celebrating the impact you've made on those around you. And in another 40 years, we'll look back together at how far we've come...

Abby | ♥ Baby Love ♥ | Halifax, NS
I know I've been lacking in photos lately, but hopefully this beautiful little lady will make up for it.
Abby's mom and I discussed getting together to do a maternity session a few weeks before her due date. Abby had other ideas - she arrived two days before our scheduled session. Life doesn't always work out the way you planned; instead, I was lucky enough to meet her a few weeks later (on or very near to what was to have been her birthday).
She was just perfect throughout the entire session and her very lucky parents were up for anything. It was truly one of those sessions where everything just seems to come together.
